Stereotypically, members of fraternities and sororities are seen as party obsessed individuals. At The College of New Jersey Greek life isn’t just about gossip, parties, and drinking. The Greek organizations on our campus care greatly about volunteering and community service. All of the fraternities and sororities sponsor annual fundraising events for national philanthropies. For example, Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority raises money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with their event The Lion King and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity has their Gladiator event in order to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. My sorority, Kappa Delta, has annual events for 4 national philanthropies. Our biggest event of the year is called Shamrockin’ Runway, which raises money for Prevent Child Abuse America. The event is a mock pageant in which contestants compete in talent, formal wear, and casual wear segments. We also have a raffle where local companies donate gift certificates and baskets to help raise money for our cause. A local Italian restaurant, Mamma Floras, donated gift certificates for us to award to our winners
This year the event took place on March 27 in the Brower Student Center on the TCNJ campus. Members from 10 different campus organizations volunteered their time in order to participate in Shamrockin’ Runway. With their help we were able to raise over one thousand dollars for Prevent Child Abuse America. This money goes to their efforts of raising awareness and preventing child abuse and neglect in the United States. National Kappa Delta has been working with Prevent Child Abuse America since 1982. Since this partnership began, National Kappa Delta has contributed over 7 million dollars to the organization. Kappa Delta at The College of New Jersey continues to hold Shamrockin’ Runway every year and each year the event gets bigger and better.

This was a unique topic since most people don't go in depth on sorority events.
The script was nicely written and flowed, which was helped by clear anunciation.
Good job!
Meghan:
Nice piece. We all know the stereotypes about greek life and it is nice to play up the charitable things we do that most people don't pay attention to.
Your voice was clear and you paced yourself well, much like your news brief and in your news piece. You continue to remain calm and easy to listen to without sounding monotone or boring.
The writing was effective, and I liked the lead mentioning some of the other organizations annual philanthropy events to help open on the topic beyond people familiar with Kappa Delta.
My only gripe is that towards the end, you get a little too heavy on numbers. I would have liked to hear a little more about Shamrock itself, since we all know how fun and wacky it can get.
Nice work overall though.
Hey, Meghan!
As a sorority member yourself, I can tell that you know a lot about this topic, and your sincerity came through in your speaking. It was also very interesting to me, since I am largely and outsider to Greek life. I had no idea that sororities do so much. You writing was very good. You kept me engaged throughout the piece, which was also thanks to your excellent annunciation and clear, steady tone. The only thing I would say is perhaps use music or SFX to intro your piece, but that's nitpicking and not entirely necessary. Fantastic job! Thanks for opening my eyes about sororities.
Meghan, I liked the opening but there was not enough on the event itself and the amount raised was buried within the copy instead of being showcased. Don't write in first person and remember to be the reporter. Good idea for a piece.
